Sir John A. honoured in Hamilton with RHLI 13th Bn Ceremonial Guard

Sir John A. MacDonald would have been very proud in Hamilton on January 8th, 2012. Hamilton, via the local Sir John A. MacDonald Society, is the only Canadian city which commemorates Sir John's birthday. In addition, we were the first Canadian city to erect a statue in his honour, proudly standing guard in Gore Park.

The RHLI 13th Battalion has, since its formation three years ago, been a part of the observance in Gore Park. This year, Corporals Joe General and Will Thomas, under command of Sgt Chris Brooks, took post at the statue for the formal observances. Their presence was noted by CHCH-TV News and the Hamilton Spectator.

Sir John A. was committed to a united Canada and was determined to keep it independent. The presence of the RHLI 13th Bn Ceremonial guard is a fitting reminder of this.
